QUESTIONS YOU MAY ASK YOURSELF
I feel changed since the death of my loved one. How do I reconcile with this change within me and its effects on how I connect with others?
To put it bluntly, when grief touches our life it changes us. It changes whatâs important to us. It softens us in some places, hardens us in others. Where we meet other people in the process of relating might look very different than it did before.
Jill put it this way, when reflecting on this very issue,
In some ways, this loss has made me more compassionate and in other ways less so. I have an infinite amount of compassion and patience for othersâ hardships and loss, but Iâm less patient for what feels like less âjustifiedâ sadness. This was my first (and most significant) life trial, and I now have a broader appreciation for just how hard some individualâs lives are. This recognition of just how hard life can be has made it harder for me to âsit withâ the less significant tribulations of our lives.
